Venture out to the waters that form the heartland of Vietnam with a full day in the Mekong Delta. This adventure takes you on a bicycle ride through country villages and farms, shows you the traditional lives of local fisherman, and lets you try out some of their signature dishes.
After your private guide meets you at your hotel, take an air-conditioned vehicle out to the Mekong Delta town of Cai Be and step aboard the local ferry. You get an excellent view of Cai Be's bustling floating market on the Tien River, where people sell fruit and other goods from small boats laden with merchandise, before you return to land to explore the town's specialty shops on foot.
Once you've sampled some of the popped rice, popcorn, coconut candy, and honey, stop and admire the Phu Chau Pagoda, which dates back to 1754. Cruise the Ba Nam canal in a motorboat, and then switch to a small, oar-powered sampan for a ride along the tranquil Sau Ca canal. Visit a local family, try some fresh-picked fruit from their trees, and have some home-brewed longan wine.
You also have the chance to try your hand at catching an elephant ear fish, which your host cooks up for lunch along with Mekong Delta dishes such as fresh river shrimp, deep-fried spring rolls, clay pot pork, soup, rice, and dessert. After lunch, relax in a hammock or take a bike for a leisurely ride through the countryside.
In midafternoon, take a cruise back to your tour vehicle for the drive back to Ho Chi Minh City.
