Located on a curve of the Mekong River, the Laos capital of Vientiane is a thriving community of 500,000 citizens bursting with history and culture. This tour lets you marvel at prominent monuments including Wat Si Saket, the city's oldest temple, and the former royal temple of Wat Ho Phra Keo.
Day 1: Wat Si Saket Temple, That Luang Stupa & Mekong Sunset
After pickup from the airport or your hotel, enjoy a bit of downtime at your hotel before setting off on a driving tour of the city's major sights. Check out at the nearly 200-year-old Wat Si Saket temple and its array of miniature Buddha statues, and then visit the former royal temple of Wat Ho Phra Keo, which once housed the famed Emerald Buddha.
Head to the precious and sacred That Luang Stupa, known as the country's national icon. On the way, stop for some photo opportunities of the Patuxay, an imposing war monument that's known as Vientiane's own Arc de Triomphe. End the day by admiring the sunset from the bank of the Mekong River before returning to your hotel for the night.
Day 2: Nam Ngum Dam & Lake Cruise
After breakfast, head out of the city en route to an enormous reservoir created by a damn on the Nam Ngum River. Make a stop at Ban Keun, famous for its salt extraction facility, then arrive at Nam Ngum Lake, where you set off on a boat ride that takes you past fishing villages and various islets. Disembark the boat and take a short walk to explore the community and lifestyle of local fishermen, and then return to Vientiane late in the evening.
Day 3: Talat Sao Market & Departure
If time allows, make a visit Talat Sao, a thriving morning market, before taking a relaxing drive back to the airport or another hotel.
