On this excursion with your own guide, see a floating market, get a sense of daily life of the Mekong Delta, and taste Mekong specialties during lunch at a local home. With 2 nights at hotels included, admire a stunning temple and a tiny mosque before your trip ends in Phnom Penh.
Leave Ho Chi Minh City and drive to Can Tho, the center of the 11 provinces of the Mekong Delta. Stop at Cai Be in Vinh Long, board a traditional boat for a cruise on the Mekong River, and see Cai Be floating market, An Binh Islet, local homes, bonsai gardens, nurseries, and orchards. Along the way, get a glimpse of farming activities and daily life of the Mekong Delta.
After enjoying a lunch of Mekong specialties at a local home, continue to Can Tho and spend the night at a hotel or the Nguyen Shack Riverside Homestay, featuring a garden, bamboo bungalows, as well as bicycle tours to rice fields and a rice wine producer.
In Chau Doc visit a market overlooking the confluence of 3 rivers and then take a boat to Chau Giang District where a tiny mosque serves the local Cham community, a minority which dominated coastal Vietnam from the second to the ninth centuries. Here, you may get the chance to see Cham artists weaving silk.
Next, admire a beautiful Khmer temple and floating houses that double as catfish farms, now a huge industry for the country. En route, visit the bamboo basket-making hamlet of Long Thanh before you continue to Can Tho and your hotel.
After breakfast, ride to the boat dock and catch the express boat from Chau Doc to Phnom Penh.
